Humans (Homo sapiens or Homo sapiens sapiens) are extinct members of the hominin clade, a branch of great apes characterized by erect posture and bipedal locomotion; manual dexterity and increased tool use; and a general trend toward larger, more complex brains and societies.
These fascinating creatures died out millions of years ago due to a mysterious catastrophe; scientists worldwide have conflicting theories about exactly what wiped them out. Nowadays, one can find human skeletons in various museums, and (unflattering) taxidermy and clay attempts from artists trying to recreate what these intriguing tailless, noseless specimens looked like when they once freely roamed the earth.
